Archive Post: More Facts and Tidbits about Medicare

A Few Interesting facts according to Wikipedia:
"The Social Security Act of 1965 was signed into law on July 30, 1965, by President Lyndon B. Johnson as amendments to Social Security legislation. At the bill-signing ceremony President Johnson enrolled former President Harry S. Truman as the first Medicare beneficiary and presented him with the first Medicare card, and his wife Bess, the second."
Medicare has only been around for 51 years.  In that amount of time, it has evolved into one of the Largest Medical Insurance Providers in America. Providing Coverage to close to 50 million Americans.

Every year the Social Security, Medicare, and Taxes are the Campaigning hot button topics. However, nothing ever changes. It is the same program with only the smallest of tweaks to maintain the status quo of the Current party of power. In fact with the exception of the Health care bill that was recently pass and signed into law. There haven't been any major changes for most of the 51 year history of the Medicare program.

As Long as Politicians can use Programs like Medicare and a Social Security to pull votes. Meaningful change can never happen, and the Low-Income and Homeless will suffer for it.
